This Thames Television series set in Edwardian times, begins in 1912 - three years before "The Thirty Nine Steps" - in the dark days leading up to the First World War, when Scots-born Hannay, who has already achieved recognition as an officer in military intelligence, a mining engineer and a successful prospector, returns to Britain after thirty years in Africa, to seek a bride, a home, and a quiet life...
