Western and cowboy musical stars dominate this exciting collection of TV performances: the Sons of the Pioneers, Tex Ritter, Johnny Bond, Tex Williams, Rex Allen, Pee Wee King, Jimmy Wakely and others offer a wealth of remarkable performances recalling the old West, singing cowboys, western swing, and the powerful influence that cowboy themes have always had on country music as a whole. The title song, "Happy Rovin' Cowboy", by the Sons of the Pioneers, sets the tone for the entire program - Texas fiddle meets electric guitar, and the Sons bring upbeat 1930's cowboy-swing into the rock-and-roll age. Jimmy Wakely's singing is mellow and charismatic - and the great crossover star takes a turn on piano as well.
