Hatchet is pretty much exactly as described on the DVD cover an "old school american horror". The storyline is paper thin, a group of Mardi Gras tourists become stranded after their boat crashes on a ghost tour of the swamps. Stuck in the woods they are picked off one by one by a crazed and deformed killer named Victor Crowley. The film is very much is the same vein as horror classics like 'Friday the 13th' and 'Halloween', there's plenty of gore, a few decent jump in your seat moments, some genuinely funny moments and a retro style abrupt ending. If you like gory horror films then this is well worth a rental.
This film does exactly what it says on the tin, although its not the best horror film i've ever seen it's also not the worst. There are some excellent scenes of graphic violence, severly lacking in some modern day horrors.
Also look out for cameos by the actors who played Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and the Cancy Man!
