This was an ok film, glad I watched it for the curiosity factor, however I did think afterwards about how amazing the opening scene was...and that was about it.
the linking stories in relation to recent events was cleaver however i did feel a bit disappointed in this film.
Meh! not much happens! The first 15 mins are pretty darn good though! Apart from that, once again... Meh!
Just catching up on a few Clint Eastwood films that I hadn't seen and came across this one from 2010 that he directed and produced.
While I it has some elements of a ghost/supernatural type story, these are minimal. It's really about the intersecting lives of three individuals: a French woman (well played by Cecile de France - surely that's not a real name?), an American (Matt Damon) who has genuine psychic powers, and a young English boy Marcus (George McLaren) whose twin brother Jason (played by real life twin Frankie McLaren) has been killed in a traffic accident.
French woman has near death experience in the 2004 tsunami. Marcus pines for his brother, who then apparently intervenes to save his life in the 2005 London tube bombings, American psychic touches hands with French woman at the London Book Fair, they get together and everything ends happily...
There is a dramatic opening sequence with a CGI-effects tsunami, but the effects aren't overdone and it comes across well. The London sequences come across best (but perhaps as a Brit I'm a little biased) although there's a fluffed line by one of the child actors and the guide at the Dickens Museum refers to 'Edward Drood' rather than 'Edwin Drood' - it's a bit like a spelling mistake, once you've spotted it your eyes are inexorably drawn to it.
After the opening sequence it becomes a reflective, gentle film, the 'psychic' elements aren't intrusive and I enjoyed it very much. 4/5 stars. Recommended.
‘Hereafter’ is a fantasy drama directed by Clint Eastwood. The movie is about three different people who are affected by fatal events in their life. George is a blue collar worker who has a gifted ability to speak with the dead. Marie is a French journalist who had survived a tsunami in Thailand. Marcus is a school boy who suffers the death of his elder brother. The drama is centered on the connecting point of the three lead characters.
The acting by the lead characters is quite amazing. We have seen the acting abilities of Matt Damon in many different occasions. The performances of other actors like Ceclie De France and the young twins have also helped the movie shape up very well. The emotional sequences are played to perfection by al most all leading characters in the film.
There are various emotional depictions by the lead characters in various circumstances like loss of a loved one, and near death experience etc. The movie is well paced and the narration is done perfectly. The screenplay is done fantastically and the performances match the intensity of the script.
The terrifying events portrayed in the film are hard-hitting and emotional. Sometimes the movie appears to be predictable and slow paced. True, there is no big suspense in the film and the emotional scenes are a bit slow. Despite having some fantasy elements like a psychic who can communicate with the dead, this movie is a pure emotional drama. This is a hard to miss film for all emotional drama lovers.
