Argentina, August 2001. Against the backdrop of Argentina's Great Depression, and with his glory days far behind him, Fermín (Ricardo Darín), a retired football player, and his supportive wife, Lidia (Verónica Llinás), have a noble vision: pull the community of their struggling hometown of Alsina out of decline. With this in mind, the couple talks its down-on-their-luck friends into investing their meagre savings into an agricultural cooperative, only to see them fall prey to an unscrupulous banker and an equally rapacious lawyer bent on getting his hands on their precious U.S. dollars. And, as if that weren't enough, as millions of small account holders suffer, tragedy strikes. But once, Fermín and his companions were lawful, hard-working citizens dreaming of a better future. Now, they are a band of defeated, downtrodden victims who just want their money back. Do Fermín's heroic losers have what it takes to start a new career with a bang?
