Synopsis:
This collection of vintage film footage captures part of New Mexico's rich culture and history. Created in the 1950's and before, films such as "Night Rodeo, Gallup, New Mexico" offer viewers a portal into the past. Alan Shilin's documentary, entitled "Pueblo Heritage," examines the history of pueblos inhabited by New Mexico's native people. Through his discussion of the Zuni, Taos, and Acoma pueblos, Shilin shows how Indian communities were forced to change as the result of modernisation and interference by incoming settlers. The rest of the films in the collection capture the natural beauty and culture of several Southwestern locales, including Phoenix, Niagara Falls, and Austin.
