Synopsis:
This compilation of vintage films presents an interesting look at the fairs hosted by three American cities - Chicago (1933), New York (1939) and Seattle (1962). Amazingly, all three fairs lay emphasis on one theme - progress. The first two films on this interesting video take you on a tour of Chicago city and the exhibition grounds. You will see some of the pavilions like the Chrysler Motors pavilion, and other buildings that were a part of the fair. People in interesting costumes are also seen. Although these clips do not contain shots of the insides of pavilions, they provide a good "feel" of what it was like to be at the fairs. The movie set shown in one of the films, I am told, was a big crowd puller. You will see some of the sights from the 1939 New York exhibition in a film shot by an amateur. The film "21st Century Calling" presents an enchanting tour of the 1964 fair in Seattle. This professionally made film captures one amazing display after another, as a young couple romps wide-eyed through the exhibition. Rides on monorails, foreign visitors, fabulous scientific displays and a visit to the amusement park leave the two spellbound. To sum it up, the clips on this video are entertaining, informative and educational.
