Westinghouse is still a household name - though many of us may be less than familiar with its founder George Westinghouse, and the hard work and vision that made his company a corporate legend. On this historic video is a solid overview of vintage film clips shot at the height of the Westinghouse dynasty. What’s shocking is how huge and dangerous the factory floors were during the industrial era. The machines and turbines are huge and there are workplace situations that would spit in the face of OSHA regulations today. It’s also a good example of how far women have come in the workforce. There is more than an hour of film here and all of the clips remain in great shape. If anything the digital process makes you realize how much care and effort went into making these documentary films. The films themselves are very old (from 1904) so it’s very, very impressive that they were this well preserved.
