Set in the early 1970s and based on an unbelievable true story, The Hoax stars Richard Gere as Clifford Irving, a failed writer whose career is going nowhere until he embarks on one of the greatest cons of the century. Claiming that he has conducted a series of top-secret interviews with the legendary billionaire and recluse Howard Hughes, Irving's hoax biography fools both his publishers and the entire world. However, in doing so he sparks a media frenzy that threatens to spiral out of control.
