Living in a remote Icelandic fishing village, 17-year old Sigga (Kristin Audur Sophusdottir) has been dreaming for three years of crossing the world to California to be a poet. Although her father and mother (Helena Mattsson) are reluctant, Sigga is helped by her faithful grandfather and three guardian angel' friends to get to the airport. On the way she meets Nikki (Tom Maden), a charismatic hitchhiker from California who captures her heart and convinces her to stay in Iceland. Still intent on pursuing poetry, Sigga attends a transformative poetry class taught by Mr. Sondquist (Judd Nelson), where she learns the true power of words. However, Sigga's relationship with Nikki is in jeopardy when her jealous friend, Jack (Tom Prior), tries to poison their romance. Nikki realises that the only way he can live happily with Sigga is for the couple to move to California, but can they make this a reality? Can Sigga even make it to the airport? 'Iceland is Best' is a funny and poignant story about a girl who has been dreaming all her life in the dark but wants to live in the light.
