Synopsis:
Il Trittico was first performed in New York on December 14, 1918, while the First World War was still raging in Europe. At first glance, the three one-act plays Gianni Schicchi, Il tabarro and Suor Angelica seem to have nothing to do with each other; Their common denominator is simply man's entanglement in a fateful destiny that only exceptionally, for a moment, seems to promise a happy ending to the "adventure of life" - a complex of themes that few directors in its complexity match seems to be in good hands as with Christof Loy directors seems to be in as good hands as with Christof Loy. The female lead roles in the three acts of the opera are sung by the Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian, a very rare and magnificent performance but which once again ties the works together.
