Perry Krohn is a multi-millionaire with a beautiful home in the Hollywood Hills. He's the producer of a hit sci-fi series and he has a family who adore him. He is also dying of lung cancer. Peiry's son Bertie (Andrew McCarthy) is a struggling actor. Having to deal with his junkie ex-wife (Gina Gershon) and full custody of his daughter Tiffany, is tough. Being too proud to accept money horn his parents, Bertie takes a job 'selling short' the life insurance of people with AIDS. In the mist of such morbidity Bertie meets Aubrey Wicker (Elizabeth Perkins), and begins an intense affair. Rachel (Rosanna Arquette), is the daughter of Perry's brother. Adopted by Perry and his wife and loved as a daughter after the loss of her parents, Rachel believes that she knows all that There is to know about her family and her past. Knotted together by their lies, and broken by grief the Krohns must learn to trust and rely on each other.
