In Her Hands (2022)

Tamana Ayazi and Marcel Mettelsiefen co-direct this documentary which follows Zarifa Ghafari, mayor of Maidan Shahr, Afghanistan, over the course of two years. As one of her country's first female mayors, Ghafari faces harassment, sexism and assassination attempts as she strives to improve women's rights while the Taliban return to power following the withdrawal of American troops.
