Every year, the mysterious Gray Whale swims an extraordinary 10,000 miles between The Arctic and Mexico on an endless journey. In this programme - the last to be made before his tragic accident -Superman star, Christopher Reeve, sets himself a daunting task of trailing these majestic creatures to try and find out why. Reeve teams up with a group of Yupik Eskimos in a traditional walrus skin boat, who have permission to hunt a small number of these animals for food and essential supplies. Join the crew of the 'Mystique' on the way to the lagoons on Baja where the whales traditionally spend winter. The whales have been known to come right up to small boats, raising the question as to why the whales would apparently be so friendly, considering the fact that they were almost hunted to extinction. Will Reeve find the answers he is looking for? Or will the Gray Whales protect their secrets to themselves, remaining forever 'In The Wild'?
