- Debut director Maksim Panfilov helms this Russian drama exploring cross-cultural issues in the Soviet Union of the World War II era. When Russian widow Maria (Karolina Gruszka) arrives in Uzbekistan in flight from the horrors of the war she is welcomed by Amir (Bobur Yuldashev),with whom she has a son she names Ivan in tribute to her dead husband. However,when the original Ivan (Dmitriy Dyuzhev) reappears alive and well,Maria returns with him to Russia and a less welcoming society...
