Synopsis:
Archive footage and interviews with war veterans combine in this documentary on the mission to take the Japanese island of Iwo Jima in the closing months of World War Two. The island would provide safe landing strips for American B-29s,and could double as a fighter plane escort base. The US Marines were assigned the task of capturing the island,breaking down its defences through months of bombing raids and gunfire.
