Synopsis:
Jacqueline du Pre was an artist with an exuberant personality and seemingly infinite talent who, already in her youth, was recognised as one of the finest cellists in our country. It is a tragedy that her career was cut short by multiple sclerosis when she was 28 years old. She died in 1987 at the age 42.
This film contains previously unpublished footage that is at once inspiring and intimately revealing. Rehearsal sessions show Jacqueline du Pre at her most captivating: full of exuberance and infectious laughter. Here you will see the musician that her friends knew. You will also see just how spontaneous and natural was her response to music.
The second half features landmark performances of great music, including an excerpt from her memorable performance of Elgar's Cello Concerto.
