In April 1967 Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield arrived in the Northern mill town of Batley, West Yorkshire for a week's long engagement at the Batley Variety Club, for a reputed £20,000 per week - Jayne who had been a star of such films as "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter and The Girl Can't Help It" had become the pin-up of a generation by then, whilst starring roles may have dwindled in Hollywood, her reputation had not.
