A soldier's quest. 'Jirga' is a unique look at soldiers and PTSD, especially in the war in Afghanistan, where armies from all over the world fought for the United States. Here, a former Australian soldier returns to a village where he was involved in war crimes. Seeking forgiveness, he puts his life in the hands of the village justice system - "the Jirga". Director Benjamin Gilmour and star Sam Smith filmed 'Jirga' under dangerous conditions close to Taliban and ISIS-controlled areas in Afghanistan, and worked with a cast of incredibly natural non-actors, including some who were former Taliban members themselves.
