Joe Cocker is one of rock and roll's enduring performers who has survived the 60's, a low period in the 70's, made a comeback in the 80's, a solid and consistent performer in the 90's and is tackling the new Millennium with a flourish. His gutsy, gravely, vocal style and unique dynamic stage presence has endeared him to music fans around the world. From his working class roots in Sheffield, working as gas plumber by day and performing in the clubs of the area by night he made his way into the music business full time, hooking up with Chris Stainton with whom he recorded "Marjorine" - a minor success in the U.K. Shortly thereafter they hit the big time when they recorded "With a Little Help From My Friends," produced by Denny Cordell and featuring guest performers Jimmy Page, Steve Winwood and Mathew Fisher. The title track is arguably Cocker's best, it became a major highlight of the Woodstock Festival in 1969. The hits followed as did the mental and physical payback for Cocker's relentless touring schedule and rock 'n roll lifestyle, his episodes of public drunkenness became as well known as his talent. Having survived the 70's, Cocker's career and popularity was once again on the upswing, releasing several hit albums including "A Luxury You Can Afford", "Sheffield Steel" that perhaps is Cocker at his very best - well rounded, covering everything from get-down rock and roll to soul-searing gospel ballads, "Civilised Man," "Cocker Live," "Unchain My Heart," "One Night Of Sin,"and "Have A Little Faith," that earned him four consecutive Grammy nominations for best male rock vocal performance.
