The American avant-garde composer's multi-media interactive soundscape is performed in collaboration with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company at the German NDR television studios in 1967. In this piece, sounds are triggered by the movements of dancers as they interrupt a series of photocells mounted on the stage. At the same time, another system uses a set of antennas that emit sounds when a dancer approaches within four feet. Cage is assisted by electronic sound producers David Tudor and Gordon Mumma, along with film and TV image manipulators Stan Van Der Beek and Nam June Paik.
