Johnny Cash was one of the most influential figures in country music history. His distinctive voice which neither sounded 'Nashville' or 'Rock 'n' Roll' was to score him over 100 hit singles in the United States and made him into one of the country's biggest stars of the 50's, 60's and 70's. The legendary Sun Studios was the birthplace of his career. His first single was released in 1955 and his final one some 45 years later in 2000. Cash died in 2003, just four months after the death of his wife and songwriter June Carter. This early recording of Johnny Cash shows his raw talent and earthy appeal. Look out for a rare display of humour with his parody of Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel.
