How do you become a composer? Klaus Huber, one of the most important composers of the second half of the 20th century, answers his 12-year-old grandson's question with simple, clear images. The film by Barbara Eckle provides a fascinating insight into Huber's compositional thinking and also illuminates his family environment in a relaxed manner, which brings him closer to the viewer as a person. The focus is on the annotated rehearsal work on the chamber music version of the 2002 masterpiece, “The Soul Must Get Off the Mount”, on a text by the Palestinian Mahmoud Darwish. Huber's daughter Katharina Rikus sings and speaks the Arabic solo part, the cello dialogues with its historical relative Baryton. A complete rendition of the work completes the documentation.
