Not many people outside of Australia know of Kokoda. Not many people outside of Australia know of Papua New Guinea for that matter, which is where 39th Battalion Kokoda is set. Among such pristine and magnificent jungle comes a story of war that hits the hearts of every Australian.
39th Battalion Kokoda shows the avid pursuit by the Japanese to conquer the supply line (the Kokoda Trail) in order to take over Port Morseby, then enter Australia. It is an accurate portrayal of one of the bloodiest campaigns of WW2.
The movie so accurately portrays how vicious and callas the Japanese were in slaughtering the Australians and the Papua New Guinea natives (named the Fuzzy Wuzzy people) in their pursuit to Port Moresby. The movie allows an in site into the living conditions of the Australia soldiers and the sickness and injuries they incurred. The movie shows how the soldiers fall apart but manage to pick themselves back up and keep moving along the Kokoda trail for the sole purpose to protect it from invasion.
This is not your typical war movie. Kokoda’s moto is 'courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifice’ which best describes the film. Its not about putting soldiers on a pedestal, its not about famous actors…its about a story that will touch your heart and open your eyes.
A must see even for those, like me, who are not font of war movies.
