- Street vendor Apple Annie has always written to her daughter as if she were a member of New York's high society. Now her daughter plans to return to America with her new fiance and his father, a Spanish Count. Annie must pretend to be wealthy or the Count will not give his blessing. With the help of gambler Dave the Dude, who sees Annie as a good luck charm, she is transformed into the grandest of dames - but not everything goes quite as planned...

Cute adaptation of a Damon Runyon story but this comedy-drama can’t make up its mind who the main character is and the ending is abrupt.
