First there was Britpop, then there was anthem pop and, lately, there's been the new art pop, all of it chronicled on Britain's best live music show. Ever since Britpop, our guitar bands have also been pop bands - sometimes this has made them a touch too polite and certainly Oasis and Blur still cast a long shadow over all the bands that have come after them - but as a result the last ten years have been rich in big tunes with singalong qualities. Sure, there's still a divide between the angular types - Blur, Franz Ferdinand, The Libertines, The Futureheads - and the boys in their streetclothes singing about hope and misery - Oasis, Travis, Snow Patrol, Coldplay and many more - but there's a common interest in getting over and getting to the chorus. Of course, 'Later' isn't just about boys and girls with guitars, bass and drums, but new British guitar bands are central to the show's DNA, and this collection of over 35 magic moments from the best of new British guitar pop concentrates strongly on the last 18 months - the return of Morrissey, the rise of Hard-Fi, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight etc - while harking back to some classic sessions from the likes of The Verve, Radiohead, Suede and Manic Street Preachers. Cool Britannia just keeps on coming, here's some of the coolest cream.
