This documentary looks at the Allied push east towards Berlin in the spring of 1945. Using Higgins boats brought forward by the U.S. Navy, and a captured bridge at Remagen, the armies successfully crossed the River Rhine and joined up with paratroopers dropped on the eastern banks in one of the largest airborne assaults of the war. The programme not only shows what the war was like,it also captures a sense of time and place.
