From the Academy Award winning director of Rain Man, Barry Levinson, comes a warmly funny, semi-autobiographical tale of a pivotal time in American social history. The year is 1954; a season of dramatic social upheaval and excitement is explored through the eyes of a Jewish family living in Baltimore. The two sons, Van and Ben, discover the opposite sex: one becoming infatuated with a local, non-Jewish rich girl, the other befriending his school's first black student. In the meantime their father, a strip-club-owner, becomes increasingly involved in a money racket and is soon out of his depth. A beautiful story of friendship and romance, set against a vivid background of racism, Cadillacs, rock'n'roll and religion.
