- Based on Kate Grenville's novel and inspired by a true story. For 40 years Lilian (Ruth Cracknell) has been locked up in a mental institution by her father. Left alone she has lived in a world of torment and despair shut off from the world. Lilian's release is eventually secured and she faces the great unknown with passion and courage. Deeply moving. She searches the streets of Sydney for the love and affection she never received herself, Lilian's journey becomes one of self-realisation and contentment. Her story is revealed through moving flashbacks with many colourful characters lightening the dark clouds of her past. Lilian's story is both inspirational and rewarding.
