A story of a brutal king and the bloody barbarian wars that tore through Europe in 1183AD. In the waning years of his life, King Henry II (Patrick Stewart) is holding court, during which he'll announce the blood successor to his throne. Assembled for this event are those who seek to gain from the Kings death. His calculating wife, Eleanor of Acquitaine, imprisoned for ten years by her husband for a political coup of her own. His shamelessly flaunted mistress, Alais and her venomous brother, King Philip of France and Henry's three sons: Prince Richard the Lionhearted, who can't fathom the depth of leadership, the shallow Prince Geoffrey and the luckless and bumbling Prince John. With the tension mounting between the would be successors, will the King's heir be accepted and allowed to rule the nation or will their coronation spark one of the most Brutal & bloody wars in History.
