On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the "peace prayers" and the "peaceful revolution" that began exactly one month before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Herbert Blomstedt conducts a concert from the Church of St. Nicholai with the Gewandhausorchester and Thomancer Chor Leipzig, presenting Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) "Symphony No. 5," J.S. Bach's (1685-1750) "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," "Furchte dich nicht," "Chaconne (from Partita No. 2 in D Minor," "Dona nobis pacem (from Mass in B Minor), and Felix Mendelssohn's (1809-1847) "Hore Isreal and Furchte dich nicht (from Elias)," accompanied by soloists Victoria Mullova, Nancy Argenta, and Jurgen Wolf.
