Sent out to India by Prime Minister Attlee to serve as the Last Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten is given the seemingly impossible task of bringing about independence. Faced with a group of highly influential and charismatic men, Pandit Nehru, Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi he must formulate a plan for Partition which is agreeable to all parties.
Within a year Mountbatten achieves the impossible. As midnight strikes on 15 August 1947 there are jubilant celebrations throughout the territory.
The moment marked the dawn of Independence for India, and the end of the British Raj.
