As the 19th Century draws to an end London is a city ravaged by poverty, class warfare, disease and unspeakable crime. Amidst the chaos is Catherine Ringward (Emily Raymond) a beautiful young woman who dreams of carving a career for herself as a journalist. Not ignorant of the social boundaries that exist, Catherine is torn between the career and her love of brilliant young surgeon Dr. Jonathan Stephens (Paul Rhys). Whilst visiting a local newspaper office Catherine gets barely introduced when news arrives of the horrific and gruesome murder of a prostitute in the East End. As the body count grows and the culprit continues to elude the police, Catherine finds herself involved in the biggest manhunt that London has ever seen. As Catherine gets closer to uncovering the identity of the brutal murderer she realises that he will never let her live to tell the story....
