Jane Marks, mother to a confused trio of daughters, is head of a family who seem to have nothing in common, except for a churning, ever frothing brew of vanity, insecurity and painfully comical curiosity. Eldest daughter Michelle's increasingly distant husband doesn't appreciate her obscure artistic endeavours making miniature furniture for tragically trendy craft shops. Younger sister Elizabeth, an aspiring actress with a brutally uninterested agent, compulsively re-houses stray dogs with little thought to her own loveless situation. Only the youngest sister, Annie, an adopted African American eight-year old, seems to stand a stance at rising above the family's legacy. But she's fast developing an unhealthy interest in her appearance and given her adoptive family's history it's quite possibly a hint of what is to come.
