The story begins in 1933 with handsome young street punk Gino Santangelo bootlegging illicit booze while he desperately searches for a way to climb the ladder of success. Catching the eye of a man-hungry socialite, he becomes her willing pupil in love-making and her sleazy senator husband is soon also guiding him into the lucrative world of big business. With his powerful friends' backing, Gino learns fast and eventually opens a lavish casino hotel in fast-growing Las Vegas. Blissfully married, his happiness seems complete with the birth of a daughter, Lucky.
But her wild, headstrong ways and determination to prove herself become the bane of his life, while the many enemies he made as he carved his way through the gangster jungle to become one of America's richest and most powerful tycoons, will do anything they can to bring down his empire and cause him pain.
