Set in the 1950's, in the Queens neighbourhood of New York, the story of a family of Italian origin and three brothers: one for everybody, all for one. Their lives as workmen, most of them immigrants, are tough: but at the death of their father, spurred by Mac (John Turturro), the Major, who identifies freedom by building something of his own, the three brothers rebel against the Polish shipyard leader who speculates on Waste materials and just think of the gain. Risking all their possessions, they manage to buy a lot and to set themselves up, to forge a future that will free them from misery and humiliation. Constrained to difficult choices regarding a hereditary heritage of values, and traditions, they keep it hard because they are united. But with the passage of time, the covenant does not rely on the evidence of life, rivalry, intolerance. And separation, for Mac is synonymous with betrayal, is inevitable. He who sacrificed everything to the "beauty of doing", which has put physical force and vital momentum at the service of a dream, is condemned to the loneliness and failure of good faith.
