Conductor Bernard Haitink has been hailed as one of the pre-eminent interpreters of Austrian composer Gustav Mahler's works. In the early 1990s, he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra through a Mahler cycle. This program captures part of that cycle: the groundbreaking First Symphony (the "Titan") and the Second Symphony ("Resurrection"). Vocalists include soprano Sylvia McNair and contralto Jard van Nes, along with the Ernst-Senff Choir.
