Synopsis:
Taken from the poverty of her parents' home in Portsmouth, Fanny Price (Billie Piper) is brought up with her rich cousins at Mansfield Park, acutely aware of her humble rank and with her cousin Edmund (Blake Ritson) as her sole ally. Fanny gradually falls in love with Edmund, but during her uncle's absence in Antigua, Mary Crawford (Hayley Atwell) and her brother Henry (Joseph Beattie) arrive in the neighbourhood bringing with them the glamour of London life and a reckless taste for flirtation. As her cousins Maria (Michelle Ryan) and Julia (Catherine Steadman) vie for Henry's attentions, Fanny watches in despair as her beloved Edmund succumbs to Mary's charms.
Fanny now has to fight for her family and her one true love.

Dire - Mansfield Park review by SB

Spoiler Alert

This is the worst Jane Austen adapatation made in the past fifty years. The novel has been butchered to fit the story into 90 minutes, characters are omitted or altered. Billy Piper is a good actress in some roles, but she is totally miscast in this.

Very poor adaptation - Mansfield Park review by EW

This was most disappointing. It lacked authenticity, was too "loose" and modern in character. Significant parts of the original narrative were missed out or altered. In particular Fanny's punishment when she was sent back to live with her family in Portsmouth was a vital episode which it was unforgivable to omit. The contrast between the well ordered household at Mansfield and the small, chaotic and overcrowded family home in Portsmouth is an essential part of the story.
