Harry Kantschneider (Robert Desiderio) has just been sentenced to a federal penitentiary: Maximum Security. A place where a lifetime sentence is a lifetime of hell. Harry has been stripped of his dignity and of his rights, losing all of his dreams to the nightmare of prison. But Harry is determined to get out, no matter what it takes. Harry cleverly avoids the brutalities of his inmates with his charming personality and a penchant for practical jokes. He becomes a hero to the other convicts, and is befriended by his gruff yet compassionate cell-mate, Frank Murphy (Geoffrey Lewis) and the meanest of all the cons, L.J. (Ji-Tu Cumbaka) and Papa Jack (Art Evans), two brothers who run the prison with an iron fist. A fist that even the warden (Stephen Elliot) has felt the brunt of. Through the efforts of Dr. Allison Brody (Jean Smart), an attractive social worker with an eye for Harry, he is recommended for an early release for non-violent criminals. But not everyone is as taken with Harry. He is quickly faced with this grim reality in the form of Thigpen (Robert Alan Browne), the head prison guard...the first of the enemies he'll meet behind bars in...Maximum Security.
