In 18th-century Vienna, the medical establishment was threatened by the unorthodox yet successful healing methods of physician Franz Anton Mesmer. His new therapy seemingly cured the beautiful, blind pianist Maria Theresa Paradies; the daughter of a well-to-do businessman, and also one of his patients. The pair developed a bond and an intimate relationship ensued, but could his forbidden love affair or his unique gift, in a world that feared the eccentric, be the reason for his exile from Vienna?
