It is 1968 and Chris (Christian Bale) and Toni (Lee Ross) are lifelong friends who vow to each other that they will never get trapped in the suburban sprawl that is "Metroland".
Whilst Toni lives up to their pact, leading a carefree globetrotting life, Chris briefly escapes to Paris to be a photographer and moves in with beautiful French girl, Annick (Elsa Zylberstein). This is until he meets and falls in love with Marion (Emily Watson) and returns to suburbia.Nine years later in 1977, Toni returns to find his best friend having chosen the life that they so fully rejected. Fired by energy of punk and Toni's zealous belief in the sexual freedom in the seventies, Chris has to finally decide between his best friend or his wife and daughter. - Actors:
