Press agent Fred MacMurray arrives in a small Pennsylvanian coal town with the body of an actress Alida Valli who died after making her first and only film. The producer of the film will not release it and the press agent whilst making the funeral arrangements comes up with a publicity gimmick to change the producers mind, he asks the local priest Frank Sinatra to ring the church bells for three days, what happens next takes everyone by surprise in this warm family drama.
