Hanoi, North Vietnam, February 12th 1973. After years of frustrating negotiations the long awaited return of 591 American prisoners of war begins. It was called Operation Homecoming. POWs of the Vietnam War were the longest held American prisoners of any war in US history, up to almost nine years. The incredible stories featured in this programme are a celebration of the human spirit, and a testament to the remarkable men who refused to die, whose only thought was to survive and return home with honour. This amazing documentary sees those who survived the prison camps retell stories of unparalleled determination while others describe America's efforts to rescue them.
