Monteverdi: L'orfeo: L'Incoronazione di Poppea: Il Ritorno d'Ullise in Patria (1980)

No one has brought us closer to history's first great opera composer than Jean-Pierre Ponnelle collaborating with the invigorating musicianship of conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Their famous Monteverdi cycle was seen all over Europe and, on film, televised throughout the world. These universally acclaimed productions set standards for early Baroque performance.
