Taja opens a bazaar at a trading post. But a vicious underworld criminal, Jola, claims ownership of the trading post as payment of its previous owner's gambling debt. Jola and her cohorts fight Kung Lao, Siro and Taja until Joia's brother, Kerbal, ends the battle. Jola, Kebral and the others belong to a familiar organisation called The Black Dragon. Its leader, Bannak, plan to use intimidation and extortion - instead of force - to gain control of the trading post. Siro wants to battle The Black Dragon before it attacks again, but Kung Lao restrains him. Meanwhile, Jola is furious that her family prevents her from using violence. In the cobalt mines she seeks out Shang Tsung, who was once her lover. She begs him to return to her the powers of the Dragon - forces that her family once used to destroy its enemies. Joia's relatives relinquished the powers when they lost control over them. After a monk is killed as a warning to Kung Lao's band to vacate the trading post, Siro begins a retaliatory crusade. But, contrary to everyone's assumptions, it is not Siro who kills Bannak but Jola. Subsequently, Jola acquires the powers of the Dragon from Shang Tsung in exchange for promising to kill Kung Lao. With the ability to shoot flames from her palms, Jola fights Kung Lao, Siro and Taja but is almost killed before Shang Tsung pulls her back to Outworid to train her better. For now, the trading post is safe.
