Synopsis:
Mstislaw Rostropowitsch is internationally recognised and celebrated as one of the greatest cellists in the world. He has made countless and unforgettable appearances and is known for his confident technique and his intense, visionary game. Haydn's cello concerts are the most important classical works for this instrument. They are gorgeous pieces, and in this legendary recording from the Henry Wood Hall in London in 1975, Rostropowitsch not only plays the cello, but also heads the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. The program is complemented by Haydn's most famous piano concerto with Sir Neville Marriner as conductor of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and with Homero Francesch on piano.
