- When the public unwrapping of an alledgedly ancient Egyptian mummy turns out to reveal the fresh corpse of a contemporary gentleman, it is clear to Dr. Joseph Bell and Arthur Conan Doyle that foul play is at hand. After a post-mortem proves that the deceased was in fact the victim of a brutal murder, their search leads them to a Canadian art collector who appears to be equally keen to solve the riddle of the mummy; but can appearances be trusted? Dr. Bell and Doyle's investigations lead them through an intriguing maze of murder, deception and a terrifying political fanaticism which threatens the lives of everyone - including the doctor and his apprentice themselves.
