'Murdoch Mysteries' is set in Toronto in the late 1890s and early 1900s during the age of invention. Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a methodical and dashing detective, enlists radical new forensic techniques like fingerprinting, ultraviolet light and trace evidence to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders. Murdoch's colleagues include his beloved wife, the fiery and fiercely intelligent Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy); Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Murdoch's eager but sometimes naïve right-hand man; Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Murdoch's skeptical yet reluctantly supportive boss; and morgue assistant Rebecca James (Mouna Traore), a resourceful young medical student taken under Ogden's mentorship. All are valuable allies who help Murdoch solve his varied cases and traverse the many stratums and evolving manners of Victorian-turned-Edwardian society.
