Set in late 1890s Toronto, 'Murdoch Mysteries' explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a handsome young detective using radical forensic techniques for the time, including fingerprinting and trace evidence, to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders. Although his unconventional approach elicits scepticism from his boss, Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Murdoch is often the only one who can crack the case. Murdoch's small circle of confidants includes pathologist Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy), a staunch ally who shares the detective's fascination with forensic science, and Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Murdoch's eager but inexperienced right-hand man. Both are valuable allies who help Murdoch solve his varied cases and traverse the social strata of Victorian society. Season Five of the internationally acclaimed series finds Detective William Murdoch in the Yukon trying his luck as the Klondike Gold Rush winds down. In the wake of his personal and professional problems, Murdoch has left Toronto intent on starting a new life. Despite his suspension, he soon realises that while he hoped to leave his shattered heart and tattered career back in Toronto, his days as a detective are not behind him.
