Poldark’s elder brother !
- My Cousin Rachel review by JD
Enjoyed this beautiful movie.
Well cast, lovely locations, and an excellent story.
Did she, or didn’t she ? No spoilers here but that question is the core of the film.
Many years since I read the book so even I could not anticipate the ending..........
If you liked Poldark you will love this too.
Very interesting extras too, lovely to see the snow “ transformation” treatment, and that cliff...........
Watch and enjoy.

Excellent film

I feel that this film is very underrated. An interesting story, well acted and beautifully filmed. Kept my attention throughout.

The film stretches credulity and is manipulative
- My Cousin Rachel review by JR
The film has some nice views of the Cornish landscape, but the plot stretches credulity and tries to manipulate the audience with unsubtle red herrings. Sam Clafin tries to channel Hugh Grant unsuccessfully, lacking the self deprecating humour. Rachel Weisz is better cast, but the part defeats even her acting powers. The script has glaring language anachronisms and Americanisms. After sitting through all this claptrap, the viewer is even deprived of a conclusion to the 'did she or didn't she? ' .

Did I or Didn't I?
- My Cousin Rachel review by BE
.........like this movie? I found Sam Claflin quite a dull actor in contrast to the lovely Rachel Weisz. I also found some irritating scenarios, like a piece of parchment being folded up onto itself immediately after being written on with pen and ink - where was the blotting paper? I wasn't familiar with the Daphne Du Maurier novel on which it was based and am not sure I am now!

Absorbing drama
- My Cousin Rachel review by HM
An excellent novel becomes and excellent film. Set in the late 18th Century or thereabouts, you find yourself interested in the social manners of the day before being drawn into an emotional conflict. Who is good or bad? Who is misguided? You may find yourself reflecting on your own preferences as the script manipulates your innate sense of justice and moral code.

Mystery Drama
- My Cousin Rachel review by RR
Excellent film from gripping novel. Rachel Weisz very well cast and it was very much "did she, didn't she" as in the book. Question is left open.

More Muddle than Mystery
- My Cousin Rachel review by CV
Other reviewers have asked: Did she or didn't she? Did Daphne du Maurier herself know? I have not read the novel but the answer to the last question seems to be No. It seems that any decision to the first question cannot be reconciled with the total behaviour of Rachel one way or another when you look back on the film. Muddle is a cheap and easy way of creating mystery which looks all too apparent here. Also an outburst from Rachel on one occasion looked quite forced and unnatural as though the actress herself couldn't decide the motivation. However, there are some attractive settings and the character of Philip is more naturally portrayed.

My cousin rachel
- My Cousin Rachel review by BP
Enjoyable. Watched twice to understand the ending. I think she did poison the old man and was doing same to the new Master of the house but got guilty for the first time so gave jewellery etc. back. but she was a bit bi-polar anyway. Superb acting from Rachel Weizz.

UNPLAYABLE
- My Cousin Rachel review by baffledofbarham
The screen kept going blank, then in most cases returning further on in the story. Eventually we just had a blank screen.
